Sotherly Hotels acquired the hotel in 2006, investing $15 million in extensive renovations that included new lobby and pool structures, full roof and mechanical system replacement, new exterior facade and window systems, and a complete remodel of the interior finishes. Three on-property restaurant tenants offer well-rounded dining options to guests and the greater community, as well as a steady stream of lease income to the property. In spring 2008, the hotel reopened under the Sheraton flag and was quickly awarded the Tiffany Crystal Award from Sheraton for ranking No. 1 in Overall Guest Satisfaction in 2009.
