Check In On The Progress At Edgar’s Hermano

Lots of changes are coming to the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Downtown. In addition to a name change – the hotel will officially be known as The Whitehall as of next month  – the ownership is also preparing to open Edgar’s Hermano, the new Southern-Mex concept planned for the revamped property.

Photos posted to the Edgar’s Hermano Facebook page indicate that construction is nearing completion at The Whitehall, just in time for the restaurant’s (and hotel’s) planned opening on April 14. The revamp, part of a $5 million restoration project throughout the hotel, began in 2014 after the property was purchased by a Virginia-based hospitality group.

The restaurant, formerly known as Brazos, will be helmed by Executive Chef Sylvia Covarrubias, whose most recent gig was running the kitchen at Brazos, where Southern-influenced fare (think sweet corn grits cakes and soft shell crab po’ boys) was common on the menu. With Edgar’s Hermano, though, Covarrubias will be able to introduce more Mexican flavors to these classic dishes.

Take a look at the ongoing progress, and prepare yourself for decadent Southern-style dishes with a decidedly interesting Mexican twist.
